Following the success of last year’s edition of the AOM PDW on governance of emotions in entrepreneurial and family businesses with 55 participants, this year we suggest a second edition mainly building on the research agenda crafted in the first edition. The aim of this edition is to get inspired by the latest research in the field and to share the works in progress that were developed on the building blocks of the identified research directions of the first edition and beyond. We investigate the interface between family and business systems by exploring how and to what extent governance may contribute to fueling and shaping the emotions at the interface towards better individual, family and organizational outcomes (such as innovation, strategy, harmony). The PDW creates an arena to provoke thinking and to strengthen the contributions of the works in progress being shared towards publications in a special issue of the Entrepreneurship Research Journal on the topic. In fact, while “the affective revolution” (Barsade & al., 2003) clearly affected the organizational behavior literature since the 1980s, very little of it penetrated the literature on entrepreneurial and family firms (Labaki, 2013; Rafaeli, 2013) that are particular emotional arenas. Scholars are increasingly calling for more conceptual and empirical research on this topic (Labaki et al., 2013). In order to foster knowledge development in this domain, this PDW encourages transdisciplinary perspectives by bringing together scholars interested in emotions from the areas of OB, governance, strategy, entrepreneurship and family business.
